Four men accused of murder have appeared at Lewes Crown Court.
They are charged with killing Matthew Heading who died after allegedly being beaten and stamped on.
Mr Heading, 41, was found dead in his room at the Glenwood Lodge Hotel, in Grand Parade, Brighton, on June 23. Two days earlier he had been the victim of an attack in Grand Parade.
Adam Todd, 25, of Ropetackle Walk, Shoreham; Joe Budgen, 19, of no fixed address; Martin Keating, 28, of Grove Hill, Brighton; and a 17-year-old youth from Brighton who cannot be named due to his age, are all charged with his murder.
They are also accused of assaulting Mr Headings friend, Joe Burton, on June 21 causing him actual bodily harm.
No pleas were entered and the case was adjourned until October 13.
They were remanded in custody, apart from Keating, who was released on conditional bail.
