Can someone please explain how introducing services using motorised rickshaws which have been imported from India can be of any benefit to our already-congested city?
They run from Brighton Marina to Brighton Station and central Hove, a route almost identical to the No 7 bus service, one of the most frequent in the city.
The bus is also significantly cheaper and, if there are three or four people travelling, why not just get a taxi? It would cost about the same, if not less.
Even with low emissions, these motorised rickshaws are still not environmently-friendly if there are empty seats on a bus going to the same places. They certainly will not help ease congestion - quite the opposite, in fact.
The bus service in our city must be one of the best in the country and our taxis are something to be proud of, too. Do we really need to look to the developing nations to help fix what isn't broken?
And didn't anyone think the weather gets slightly cooler here than in India?
