Last year they gave Ray Charles the musical treatment and this year Spirit Of The Dance are giving ABBA the once over.

As many critics pointed out at the time, putting on a show with the words "genius" and "Ray Charles" in the titles takes courage. While some broadsheets said the company barely scratched the surface of the real Ray Charles, they did concede it was at least entertaining, which is what the latest production is all about. Entertainment with a star-spangled capital "E".

Dancing Queen, which, according to producer Graham King, opened to rave reviews and standing ovations over in Monte Carlo, is a star-spangled affair.

"I call it ABBA with feathers," says King.

"It's a cross between a Kylie concert and Moulin Rouge. It's very camp, very Priscilla Queen Of The Desert, with lots of glam girls and gorgeous boys."

There is nothing straight about this production. The ABBA classics are themed: Voulez Vous goes cowboy, Money Money Money is Forties glam and SOS is a belly dance.

While some ABBA purists may balk at the thought of the Swedish superstars shimmying and shimmering to a touching song about the breakdown of a relationship, others will no doubt be joining in.

Featuring a dynamic cast of 20 singers and dancers, dazzling costumes, outrageous choreography and rollerskates, the show is packed with wall-to-wall Abba hits including Money Money Money, Knowing Me Knowing You, Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! and Waterloo.

As well as ABBA classics, the two-hour show also features two Seventies medleys - a disco one with the likes of Night Fever and Car Wash and a glam-rock number featuring Crazy Horses and 20th Century Boy.

Audiences are also encouraged to get into the show and wear their own flamboyant Seventies outfit, with a bottle of champagne for the glitziest number.

With so many ABBA tributes around is there really enough room for another, you might wonder.

"Yes", says King. "This isn't your typical ABBA tribute, it's a real show a real theatrical production. It's very high energy and so far people have really loved it.
