Clint Westwood's one-off comedy show at The Marlborough Theatre was a treat.
The tiny theatre was packed out for the lonesome cowboy's gig, called Just You, Me And The Mountain Goat, which he performed with a broad smile and a glint in his eye.
There were songs packed full of jokes, bleating goat sound effects and monologues about life back on the range with his wife, who is also his cousin and possibly his sister.
Some of the jokes depended on the audience not sharing Clint's obsession with all things Country and Western, which allowed for a sweet, self-depreciating form of comedy.
He would shout at the audience: "You're all country people!", drawing sniggers from the cosmopolitan Kemp Town crowd.
Part of the way through the show Clint's facade fell and he revealed he wasn't really a cowboy: He was a commuter who had moved from London to Haywards Heath to escape rising house prices, but was being driven to distraction by computerised railway station announcements.
The show combines the sort of character-study Steve Coogan would be proud of, with a plethora of top-quality jokes about cowboy culture, including a well-observed one-man performance of Brokeback Mountain, stories about taking his cousin up the Muddy River and more.
The show included material that Clint, real name Anthony "Lou" Macari, was trying out for his forthcoming Edinburgh performances, and was a great deal of fun.
Clint should go far, but hopefully he'll come back soon.
