Although the temperature outside the theatre may be sky high, this high-energy production notches the heat up a few more degrees.
The show tells the story of Holly's career from his attempts to break away from the country and western music of his native Texas and to play his beloved rock and roll.
There is an air of freshness and vibrancy in this new production from a talented young company which lifts the spirits and provides a nostalgic remembrance of lost youth for those of us of a certain age.
Each act builds up into a fantastic crescendo of the pulsating hits of this legendary figure.
The first act closes with his triumphant conquering of the world of black artists, Harlem's Apollo Theatre, while the second is a recreation of his fateful last concert at the Winter Dance Party at Clear Lake, Iowa.
What a party it is, with a magnificent version of Chantilly Lace by William Kenning as the Big Bopper and a sensuous, gyratory portrayal of Ritchie Valens from Ricky Glowacki.
But it is Elliott Harper who is the showstopper, making as he does a superb Holly who has the audience rising to its feet, clapping and singing along.
