It was with mixed feelings I read of the planned removal of much of the remains of the West Pier (The Argus, June 24), as I would have liked to have seen it restored and available as a major attraction for our city.
However, the time for that is long gone and we must take a pragmatic view. As has been stated, the removal of most of the remains is essential on health and safety grounds.
Now we should look forward to the building of Brighton i360, a 21st-Century attraction and a potential source of funding for the restoration of the West Pier theatre and entrance.
We should also remember the lengthy saga of the West Pier and never let inaction lead to damage and destruction of either our built or natural heritage ever again.
