Isn't there an obvious solution to the objections of residents to the proposed waste transfer station at Hollingdean Lane and those of Lewes District Council to the Falmer Stadium?
Simply swap the locations for the two schemes.
An Albion stadium in the city centre would allow more fans to walk to matches or use existing public transport - there are good local bus services and London Road Station is nearby.
Local schools and homeowners would be untroubled by any extra traffic for 13 days in most fortnights, while having a building of architectural note on their doorsteps and available for use by the community.
At the same time, the nightmare vision of the Lewes councillors who fear the grisly prospect of oikish football fans scaring the ducks at Falmer pond and bringing increased business to the local pub will be erased, replaced by the peaceful prospect of lorries by-passing this rural idyll on their way to the new transfer station.
