A murder hunt has been launched to find the killer of a man whose body was found in a hotel used to house the homeless.

Matthew Heading, 41, was found dead in a Brighton hotel room at 10am on Friday.

Sussex Police said a postmortem revealed he had internal injuries consistent with those he sustained during an assault last Wednesday.

After the attack, Mr Heading visited the Royal Sussex County Hospital before returning to his lodgings at Glenwood Lodge Hotel in Grand Parade, where he was at about 3.45pm last Wednesday.

His brother, Simon Heading, 38, from Peacehaven, said his brother had been involved in drugs for many years but he did not believe they were involved in his death.

He said: "He was a very heavy drug addict and this is why he was at this hostel - because his body was falling apart. The drugs had really got to him.

"I think it was random. Nothing was stolen from him and he has money in his pockets."

Police are keen to trace the men involved in the assault.

Police are looking for four white men in their teens and early 20s. One was 5ft 10in, wearing jeans and a white baseball cap, a second wore a dark tracksuit and blue baseball cap, and a third had three-quarter-length jeans, a dark-coloured top and a Mohican haircut.

They also want to hear from potential witnesses, including a man in his late 30s who was holding a Cash Converters bag and a younger woman who was with a child in a pink buggy.
