As a councillor in Preston Park Ward, I deplore the decision of Brighton and Hove City Council's planning committee taken on Monday, June 19, to grant the application by Veolia to build a waste transfer station and materials recovery facility in the middle of a residential area.

It is my view the committee did not take the very strong objection by local residents or the potential health risks to residents living near the proposed site fully into account in coming to their decision.

I will therefore be asking that the decision be reconsidered by the council and by the Government Office for the South East.
