Brighton and Hove City Council is to move the Visitor Information Centre (VIC) from its established city-centre location in Bartholomew Square to the Royal Pavilion Shop because, it claims, it is in "the much quieter part of town" and "off the beaten track for many tourists".
Amazing! Businesses in The Lanes would like their business rates to reflect this, rather than having to pay heavy premiums for the privilege of trading in this prominent location.
Surely the council should be supporting us with more commitment to marketing The Lanes, rather than directing tourists away to an already well-established visitor site?
More effective signage and maps would have helped visitors find it.
If the council is abandoning this site, will it surrender all its parking spaces in The Lanes car park to the general public to compensate for the undoubted loss of visitor numbers?
