Another mature tree has recently bitten the dust, on Tisbury Road next to Hove Town Hall.
Perhaps it was not as historic but it had a raised, concrete-slab enclosure, so must have been considered quite a feature once. I wonder if it was planted when the town hall complex was rebuilt in the early-Sixties or was it much older?
Whatever, it is a shame it is gone as its massive foliage always looked good there in the summer months.
Now, all we have to look at is a rather dreary expanse of grey concrete wall, not Hove Town Hall's best side, really.
Was the tree diseased? When it was being chopped up, the trunk looked fairly healthy to me.
