I firmly endorse the views expressed in your leader article about establishing a cold-calling exclusion zone in Dallington to deter dodgy doorstep dealers (The Argus, June 19).
Rogue traders are, indeed, a menace. They prey on vulnerable and older people, sometimes robbing them of thousands of pounds for shoddy work.
Such zones are one way of protecting them However, the Dallington scheme is not the first in Sussex.
At the beginning of this year, Chichester Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership, which includes West Sussex County Council Trading Standards Service and Sussex Police, set up a pilot cold-calling zone in a part of Chichester which has a significant older population.
The zone is giving residents the confidence to say "No" to uninvited salespeople and, if it is successful, we aim to set up more across the county to help communities protect themselves and their more vulnerable neighbours.
