With regard to John Cleal's story about pressure washers (Letters, June 16), Southern Water told me the same. I then asked if they were happy for me throw unlimited buckets of water over my car as I couldn't use my pressure washer which uses about an teacupful of water.
I received the following reply "I understand your confusion concerning the use of water during the hosepipe ban and it may indeed be possible to use less water with a pressure washer than with a bucket when washing a private vehicle. However, the hosepipe ban legislation, passed in the Water Industry Act 1991, clearly states hosepipes, pressure washers and similar apparatus cannot be used to wash a private vehicle."
to pay, to use water I don't want to use. You couldn't make it up, could you?
