With regard to the pressure hoses (The Argus, June 6), and the statement from a council spokeswoman who asserted: "Pressure hoses are exempt from any water restrictions and anyone can use one", I contacted Southern Water in April specifically about pressure hoses and received this reply:
"When a full hosepipe ban is in force, a customer cannot use a hosepipe (hand-held or unattended), a pressure washer or a sprinkler, to water a private garden or wash a private motor vehicle.
"It is permissible to use a watering can or bucket to perform these activities, to use a hosepipe to transfer used water from a bath or sink or to transfer rainwater from a water butt.
"For hygiene and safety reasons, it is still permissible to top up a swimming/ paddling pool, clean a patio, path or building and use water for building purposes or flushing out engines."
I hope this makes the situation a little clearer.
