Liza Goddard couldn't be more different from Sally Driscoll, the spoiled, rich wife she plays alongside Ian Ogilvy in Dangerous Obsessions, the famous thriller with a lethal expose and chilling twist.
In reality, the actress, best known for her role as Philippa Vale in Bergerac, lives in a farmhouse full of rescue animals in the Norfolk countryside and, as president of the Hawk and Owl Trust, gets more excited about tawny owls than fake tan, which Sally applies in droves.
"She's like a typical footballer's wife," says Liza, who has been preparing for the part (which includes wearing a bathing suit) by working out daily at the gym and getting her hair and nails done on a weekly basis.
"Sally is terribly vain. She spends hours idling by the pool and at the hairdresser's. It is great fun dipping into that kind of lifestyle but I couldn't bear that lack of mental stimulation and having to look fabulous all the time. It would bore me to death. I'm not sure we'd be friends but I do admire her strength of character."
It's not all glamour and bling however. A nail-biting plot and a brilliant script peel away more layers than an onion.
Without giving too much away, the action takes place in the couple's luxury mansion which harbours a tangled web of secrets and lies.
It is only when a stranger comes knocking at the door that the shocking truth emerges.
