Headlining this summertime special from Brighton's Tru Thoughts label are The Bamboos. From Australia they may be, but the funk band have a strong connection with Brighton, having collaborated with some of our most soulful exports, including Quantic Soul Orchestra and Alice Russell.
Labelled "the best new deep funk band in the world" by the legendary Jazz Cafe, The Bamboos are one of Australia's leading instrumental outfits and are masters of super-heavy, raw, breakdriven grooves.
Their debut album, which was released in March, is a heavy mixture of soul, funk, jazz and beats and features two collaborations with soul singer Miss Russell. It has already received a lot of DJ support from the likes of Mr Scruff, Gilles Peterson, Keb Darge, Jazzanova, Russ Dewbury and Kenny Dope (Masters At Work) and the first single from the album sold out on the day of its release.
The band's live shows take us through the ages, from old school breaks through the roots of hip-hop and up to modern dance music.
Tru Thoughts veterans Robert Luis and Nostaliga will be DJing.
