It is a relief to know Mr Smetham of Southern Water is sure the only strange taste in our water is from chlorine (Letters, June 13).
Yet he maintains that, if he were so instructed by the Strategic Health Authority, his role in adding fluorosilicic acid to our drinking water would apparently be to "provide technical information on supply and distribution arrangements".
The legality of fluoridation and the likely health dangers are significant - so much so that the regulations he mentioned include detailed proposals to indemnify companies for damages or losses. Is this why he is prepared to ignore our right, recognised under Article 35 of the European Charter of Fundamental Rights, to refuse medication?
Mr Smetham and his company should be fighting for our rights to have what we pay for - pure water.
