Sean Yates, a former holder of the leaders Yellow jersey in the Tour de France, set a course record when winning the Sussex 50-mile time-trial championship at Dial Post.
Yates (In Gear) revelled in the hot conditions and powered round the West Sussex course in 1hr.50min.31sec to beat the record of 1hr.51min.32sec set by Steve Dennis three years ago.
Dennis (East Grinstead), who has won the title on seven previous occasions, also beat his old record when finishing second in 1hr.51min.11sec.
The bronze medal went to Hove rider Tim Mardell (VC Etoile) in 1hr.54min.30sec.
Steve Woodbridge (Brighton Excelsior) placed fourth in 1hr.59min.0sec.
The championship included an open event but the only non-Sussex rider to make the top six was Redhill CCs Paul Read, who was fifth in 2hr.0min.39sec.
Worthing rider Tony Reeves (GS Stella) was sixth in 2hr.0min.56sec.
The team title was won by the East Grinstead CC trio of Dennis, Mike Anton and Kevin Bashford who clocked a combined 6hr.3min.8sec.
There was another good entry for the fourth Sussex Track League meeting at Preston Park.
Peter Mitchell (Track Cycling UK), the new Sussex sprint champion, won the eight-lap scratch race while his teammate Lee Povey won the 500m handicap.
Will Thomas (Evans Cycles) won the 15-lap dash and Andy Parle (Lewes Wanderers) was first home in the eight-lap handicap event.
East Sussex CA promote a 50-mile event on Sunday over the Marefield-Boship course (6am).
