This is an open letter to Brighton and Hove City Council Planning Committee from an angry/frightened/concerned/confused/despairing resident and parent about the possible outcome of their meeting on Monday, June 19, concerning the proposed waste transfer facility (WTF) for Hollingdean Lane.

None of the planning committee, so I believe, live in the Fiveways/Preston Park/Hollingdean/Roundhill areas; their children do not attend Downs Infants/Juniors, Hertford Junior, Hopscotch Nursery, Fiveways Playgroup, Joyland or any other of the many pre-schools and schools in the area.

They do not have to live with the existing traffic congestion or our already cramped infrastructure.

Yet this committee can, in the space of a few hours, condemn the residents and children of these areas to a future of utter misery if this WTF is given the go-ahead.

Approving the WTF will contribute to increased traffic congestion (44-tonne lorries, 66 times a day, seven days a week to and from the site), noise, air pollution, fire risk and other assorted nasties associated with this kind of facility.

These are not just quality of life issues but serious risks to the health, welfare and education of many people, young and old.

It is clear from the research done by local residents/Dump The Dump that it is inappropriate to site the proposed WTF in such a densely populated residential area, never mind that Veolia have sought to place the site metres from a school filled with hundreds of young children.

I implore the planning committtee to think very hard about this application and the potential catastrophic effects it could have on thousands of people, now and in the future.

You have to reject the waste transer facility for this site.
