Departing Albion midfielder Alexis Nicolas today revealed his desire to remain in English football as he considers offers from abroad.

The former Cypriot under-21 international could move to Greece but is desperate to prove himself at Championship level after being released by the Seagulls.

Nicolas said: "I am looking forward to a fresh start and showing my ability. Greece is the strongest country if I want to move abroad.

"I could go to a number of clubs out there. There has been interest from a club in Portugal as well but it's a big decision to change my lifestyle like that.

"I've got so much more to prove in English football and there has been interest from a few clubs at Championship and League One level.

"Ideally I am looking at the Championship because I feel the way I play is more suited to the Championship, but it will depend on a lot of factors like the package and location.

"I probably won't make a decision until the end of June. There's no rush."

Nicolas, 23, spent two seasons with Albion following a free transfer move from Chelsea. A regular at first, he became a frustrated onlooker for most of last season as Mark McGhee's side were relegated from the Championship and was not offered a new contract.

"I made a lot of good friends and I appreciate the support I received from the fans," Nicolas said. "I wish the lads all the best next season.

"You never know, one day I might return to the club under different circumstances."
