Organisers of the 2006 Brighton and Hove Business Awards say entries have been "flooding in".
Last year the awards attracted 200 entrants. Among the winners were restaurant Blanch House and family-run hardware store Dockerills.
Awards organiser Caraline Brown, head of PR company Midnight Communications, said her team were "well on target" to exceed last year's number of entries.
She said: "With four new awards, three new sponsors and a new venue, the awards are going from strength to strength."
She said businesses still had time to enter and said last year's winners were encouraging them to do so.
Karen Gayler of Dockerills, which won the customer service award, said: "We were so overjoyed that all our hard efforts had been acknowledged, especially after some 100 years serving customers.
"It was such a fantastic boost to all our long-standing staff, that their hard work was appreciated."
This year the awards will be held at the Oxford Room in the Hilton Brighton Metropole on Thursday, September 7.
Closing date for entries is June 30.
