The Gilded Palace of Sin are long-established Brighton promoters whose trademark Americana/folk gigs are well-known for their high standards.
Just over halfway through the GPoS all-dayer, Oddfellows Casino introduced their breezy folk-jazz sound, perfectly suited to the abnormally warm day.
The Poppycocks followed, with an impressive set of good-time indie-folk tunes, resembling Gorky's Zygotic Mynci in places.
Next came The Magic Bullet Band, whose sound seemed to have evolved from psychedelic folk to Free-inspired Seventies blues-rock and whose singer's authentic voice sounded especially beautiful on melancholic number Nightmares.
Sadly, headliners Actress Hands disappointed with dull vocals over a too-thick rhythm section.
Taking themselves very seriously, the pub-rock cover of Mariah Carey's Dream Lover didn't help. GPoS couldn't cater for all tastes but the good-tobad ratio lay very much in their favour.
