Passenger numbers rose again at Gatwick during May as people fled the poor weather.

Almost three million people travelled through the airport during May, 4.3 per cent more than in May 2005, bringing the total number of passengers during the past 12 months to 33,270,300.

The number of passengers at Stansted rose 11.3 per cent to 2,114,300 during May and at Heathrow there were 5,716,700, up 1.4 per cent on May 2005.

The amount of cargo shipped through Gatwick during May rose by 9.9 per cent to 19,170 metric tonnes while it dropped at Heathrow and Stansted.
