Finishing touches are being made to preparations for Worthing Festival, which attracts more than 100,000 people to the town every summer.

Highlights include an open-air concert, a fireworks display, a classic car rally, a carnival, a funfair and seafront markets.

Worthing Lions are organising the extravaganza which runs from Saturday, July 22, to Saturday, August 5.

Merry England will be the theme on July 22 of Broadwater Carnival, which starts at 11am from Carnegie Road, moving on to South Farm Road, Queen Street, Broadwater Road and Broadwater Street West, finishing on Broadwater Green at about noon.

A fireworks display, sponsored by Vic Greenfield Multi Services Company, Sompting, takes place at the end of the pier at 10pm on Friday, July 28.

Next day, from 2pm, the Coastguard helicopter will be joined by Shoreham and Littlehampton lifeboats for an air-sea rescue display.

The lifeboats, but not the helicopter, will also be off the town on Sunday afternoon, subject to operational duties.

Worthing Fire Station's open day is from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, July 29.

The same day, Queen tribute band the Great Pretender will be joined by Abba Fever in Splash FM's concert from 7pm in Steyne Gardens.

At 9pm, a cavalcade of more than 40 Honda Gold Wings will parade along the seafront from Sea Lane Cafe, Goring, to the Beach House grounds.

Bargain-hunters will be able to browse Saturday's promenade markets stretching from Heene Road to Splash Point.

The Sunny Sunday classic and American car rally in Steyne Gardens on Sunday, July 30, celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.

About 350 gleaming dream machines will travel to Worthing from all over the South for the hugely-popular rally.

In addition, between 10am and 5pm on Sunday, scores of motorcycles will be on show in Beach House grounds, alongside vintage or customised recovery vehicles and trade stalls.

There will be a charity market near the Lido between noon and 5pm.

The festival will end on Saturday, August 5, with East Worthing Festival Association's fete, featuring a car boot sale, children's rides and live music at Davison High School for Girls.

Last year, £4,000 was donated to Gifford House, the Queen Alexandra Hospital-Home for Disabled Ex-servicemen in Boundary Road, Worthing, £4,000 to Worthing Shopmobility, with donations to other good causes.

This year Worthing Lions has chosen Worthing Youth Theatre and West Tarring Boys' Club as main beneficiaries.
