A woman involved in a car accident yesterday afternoon has died from her injuries.
She and her husband were making their way towards the centre of Brighton along Kingsway, Hove, when the car veered into a CCTV camera pole in the middle of the road.
The couple from Brighton, both believed to be in their sixties, were cut from the wreckage of the green Peugeot 106 outside the King Alfred Centre and taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital with serious injuries.
But the woman died later in the evening. No other vehicles were involved.
Sussex police officers diverted traffic from the scene, closing St Aubyn's Road and transferring the usual heavy traffic along the seafront to Church Road.
They were last night appealing for witnesses of the accident, which happened at 5pm, to come forward. The man remains in hospital with serious injuries.
