The guide offers a critical view of what's hot for the coming week.

The Dawgs, The Sanctuary Cella, Brunswick Street East, Brighton, tomorrow
- Take pinches of cajun, zydeco and hillbilly music, add some French Louisiana tunes, liberally sprinkle with Chuck Berry, The Rolling Stones and Fine Young Cannibals influences and voila - you get the rollicking, alt-country band that is The Dawgs. The Hastings six-piece cannot claim to be Cajun purists but they do promise "a pulse-rating, sweat-making mixture of gumbo and chips with s*** hot shuffles and tonking two-steps". The band are Bob Tipler (cajun accordion), Jim Tipler (guitar), Jake Bucton (fiddle), Julian Matthews (mandolin), Alan Saxby (string bass) and Robin Cooper (washboard and percussion). Starts 8pm, tickets £4. Call 01273 770006.

Fortune Drive, The Freebutt, Phoenix Place, Brighton, Monday, June 12
- Already stars in their native Bristol, this five-piece unleash an old school, blues-soaked rock and soul sound. Coming from the doldrums of The Old Duke, a Bristol pub and their spiritual home, their sound is a gritty slice of vintage rock, inspired by the likes of The Faces, The Rolling Stones, The Jam and The Strokes. Debut single My Girlfriend's An Arsonist (out June 26, on Shy Records) speaks of the surrealism they encounter from living, sleeping and rehearsing in a pub. In short, Fortune Drive are an open-armed gang of cheerful hedonists, whose music could be the soundtrack to all your best Saturday nights. Starts 7.30, tickets 7. Call 01273 603974.
