Breakbeat was slumbering away peacefully before the Plump DJs gave it a loud wake-up call with their first release Electric Disco/Plumpy Chunks in 1999.
With thundering momentum, their productions reformatted dancefloors and perceptions and set new standards.
The Plump DJs are Lee Rous and Andy Gardner. At the time of their first release, Andy was working in a cardboard box factory and Lee was a waiter at a Berni Inn. The music started as a hobby and after a number of excursions and collaborations with the Freskanova camp, the two began making waves and were tipped as the next Basement Jaxx and Chemical Brothers rolled into one.
Their first feature album was A Plump Night Out in 1999, and it stayed at number one on DJ magazine's breaks and beats chart for three issues in a row.
Remixes for The Freestylers, DeeJay Punk Roc, Mint Royale, BT and Orbital ballooned their status 09/06/2006 - in fact, Phil Hartnoll called the label to say theirs was the best remix The Orbital had ever had. Subsequently, in 2001, they were invited to join them on tour.
Other accolades include Mixmag's breaks compilation of the year, Pete Tong's Essential compilation album and album of the month in Wax.
Their Elastic Breaks covermount CD on Mixmag sold more than 140,000 copies - its biggest selling issue ever.
Commercially, they've provided music for Levi's, Grandstand, Ski Sunday and Sky Sports - but as DJs, they still kick ass.
