While there is no doubt the major competition small businesses face from Starbucks and other large companies needs to be resisted, I wonder why there is so much opposition to exciting new developments which would bring more tourists and money into our city.
The marina development has faced criticism at each of its early stages so far, yet can only enhance the tired and dated section of the marina.
It would provide social/affordable housing plus attracting visitors with a restaurant and viewing platform and I, for one, am very excited at the prospect of owning a property there.
I am sure the i360 will suffer equally from objectors, yet this would be a huge step forward for Brighton, and a landmark development.
Finally, the community stadium is facing most opposition, yet it would provide opportunities for more people to watch the football and attract more visitors to Brighton. The cost? A muddy field sandwiched between a railway line and the A27. Let us not hold back Brighton but continue to build its recovery and confirm our place as the best southern city by the sea.
