I wonder if your readers might be able to help me with research on my late father's life.
His name was Sidney Burns. He had a brother Johnny, sister Pauline and brother Harold Jnr. Mother was Margarite (nee McCarthy). She died when the children were young.
Her family had a hot food shop in West Street in the Thirties.
My father was a boxer. He was matched with Sid Flux of Hampshire in December 1923. He also shadow boxed on the piers and, among other things, was also a stage manager.
In 1939, he joined the Army the Sussex Light, as I understand. For the D-Day landings, he went over with 62nd anti-tank and 3rd Canadians to either Sword or Juno beach and was killed in action at Caen on July 8, 1944.
If anyone has any stories, information, pictures or cuttings of his family, civilian or Army life, I would be very grateful to hear from them.
Thank you in anticipation.
