Watching a dance music act live can often be underwhelming.
Despite being behind banks of monitors, synthesisers and turntables, the actual experience can sound as if the superstar DJ is simply twiddling his thumbs while his CD spins in the background.
Not so with Hot Chip.
The Putney-based fivepiece are being hailed as the saviours of quality indie/dance pop and it's hard to disagree.
On record they offer sophisticated, multilayered and lo-fi tunes but on stage each track from their two albums come alive as if pumped full of anabolic steroids.
Their best material comes across as the missing link between New Order and Kraftwerk. Also, in a genre dominated by pretentious idiots with spiky hair and designer stubble, their lack of image-consciousness is refreshing.
From the Cafe Del Mar, Ibiza, to Colin's Cafe, Stoke Newington, a taste of Hot Chip will always be welcome.
