I noticed the other day that when buses turn right from Portland Road north up Boundary Road in Portslade, in order for their rear wheels to clear the new traffic island, they have to pull so far out across Boundary Road that the left-hand front of the bus swings over the pavement outside The Railway public house.
Having seen this manoeuvre several times, I have to ask who designed and who authorised an arrangement where members of the public are at risk of being run down while walking on the pavement?
As a responsible engineer and surveyor, I would be held to account for any accident caused by something I had sanctioned as safe or fit for use.
I would have to answer to a High Court judge if I made a mistake and, in my profession, this is accepted and makes one aware of safety aspects one is sanctioning.
In this case, then, why can't these people be held to account?
