Chris McPhee has not written off his chances of joining League Two outfit Swindon Town.
The striker was one of four players not offered new deals by Albion last week in the wake of relegation to League One.
The 23-year-old finished last season on loan at the County Ground and is hopeful that the Robins' new management duo of Dennis Wise and Gus Poyet will follow up sacked boss Iffy Onuora's initial interest by offering him a deal.
McPhee, who failed to score in seven appearances as the Robins were relegated under Onuora, said: "Iffy was delighted with my performances and wanted to sign me.
"I hope things will get sorted out with Swindon as I had a great time on loan.
"My fitness was good and playing regularly gave my career meaning after not figuring much with Brighton.
"They've got a good team with young players and should do well next season and bounce straight back."
McPhee is confident he will get set up with a new club during the summer even if the Swindon deal fails to materialise.
He said: "I'm not pinning all my hopes on Swindon. I've got other options in the pipeline, mostly through interested League clubs.
"If Dennis Wise wants any of his own players to come in that is down to him. He hasn't been able to speak to agents or players at all as he is away on a family holiday.
"I'd like to stay in the Football League and feel as though I will do but I'm not rushing it. I want to make the right decision and I am optimistic.
"Wherever I play next season I hope I can stay in contention for a place and prove to Brighton I can score a few goals."
McPhee admitted he was poised to end his association with Albion even if he had been offered a contract.
In two injury-hit seasons he made only eight starts after helping Albion into the Championship via the play-off final at the Millennium Stadium in 2004.
He said: "I had been with Brighton since I was ten but it wasn't difficult when I was told I wasn't being offered a new contract.
"It was a chapter in my career that I'd enjoyed but it was time to move on. I wasn't getting many games and at my age I need to be playing.
"I'm looking forward to giving my career a kick start.
"I wish Brighton all the best. I might come up against them at some time in the future."
