Your story that nearly 1,500 innocent people have been wrongly labelled as criminals by the Criminal Records Bureau (The Argus, May 22) should ring alarm bells for those still supporting the Government's identity card scheme.
IT industry experts expect the new National Identity Register database to have error rates similar to the Criminal Records Bureau.
In such a case, a minimum of 50,000 people per year will be wrongly turned down for jobs and refused bank loans, mortgages and access to public services such as health care and welfare benefits because of database errors.
These people won't be rejected for anything they have done and it could be any of us, at any time.
As the Home Office sinks into more chaos and incompetence, is it not time to reject their ridiculous and damaging ID card scheme?
