Excuse the pun, but which bright spark allowed the colossal firework display by The Light Players to be staged deep among the trees of Preston Park, slap bang in the middle of the nesting season?
My enjoyment of the impressive pyrotechnics was tempered by seeing, with each deafening detonation, many terrified birds fleeing the tumult, flying blindly into the night, abandoning their nests, eggs and hatchlings to a sorry fate.
Should their lives suffer for our entertainment?
Surely a more appropriate location could have been found at such an important time for our local wildlife?
I suppose such considerations are of little significance to a council which cravenly chases the tourist dollar whatever the consequences locally. As to the mess left behind by those who attended, it was shameful.
