Last Saturday, I had occasion to use my free bus pass for the first time on the 2A service.
Stopping at Southern Cross, three young "hoodies" got on and promptly occupied the front seats reserved for the elderly.
Since the bus was half-empty, this didn't initially cause a problem but drew unfavourable murmurings from those of certain age behind me.
As we approached Church Street, things got crowded and, to the surprise of the detractors, the first lad gave up his seat to an elderly woman and the second helped a disabled man onto the bus and into his seat.
At the same time, two middleaged men (Thatcher's children?) pushed past everyone to get to available seating.
This led the third youngster to "police" an orderly disembarkation at the next stop. Well done lads.
This illustrates the danger of stereotyping young people. With citizens like these youngsters, our future is safe in their hands.
