Being a resident of Hassocks and after reading your report "DIY commuters to rebuild station" (The Argus, May 17), I strongly object to the situation.
I hope Councillor Wilsdon does not coming knocking on my door asking for donations.
This is the railway's concern, especially if the underpass gets flooded.
All the time people pay for things, just like hospital groups raising money over the years for urgent equipment, the companies will say thank you very much and spend their money elsewhere while you collect money for the things you want.
And what is this about "contributions from new housing will start our fund raising". Does this means the housing which most of the people of Hassocks do not want will get a quick okay from councillors if a certain amount of money from them goes to help build the station.
If this happened I would call it blackmail. There are too many projects across the country relying on money from developers to fund things such as new schools, roads and so on. Wave a carrrot in front of them and they will bite it.
