As council officers and consortium developers work towards finalising plans for the ice arena complex project for Black Rock, Brighton, the city's future ice enterprise prospects are looking good.

Keep Sussex Skating believes Brighton needs more such key industries to sustain the vibrant growth of the city resort.

This venue, set on the seafront and bordering on the new developments at the Brighton Marina, will become a national and international focus of the ice-skating industry.

The three masts fronting the new complex will serve to flag up the message of bold new corporate enterprise, designed not only for the enjoyment of the local residents but also the millions of annual visitors to Brighton and Hove - the city by the sea.

As our major industries are the tourism and conference trades, this state-of-the-art arena will provide a new focus for our sport and leisure industry.

It will also win the hearts and minds of the masses since the reinstatement of our fine local ice heritage is well overdue.

For Brighton, it will be the icing on the cake. Its past ice industry was fine but the new ice age industry will be finer.

More than 30 million viewers tuned in to ITV's Dancing On Ice last winter, which also saw the revival of British ice skating and the partnership of former Olympic ice champions Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.

An international ice arena at Black Rock will surely showcase new ventures in television such as Dancing On Ice. And our new Brighton Tigers ice hockey team will simply wow all ages. New stars will emerge, the enterprise will grow and public ice skating will flourish once again.

With these superb prospects on the horizon, Brighton Black Rock For The Skaters is our continuing campaign to Keep Sussex Skating.
