In response to Tony Barnes wondering about the missing rooks (Letters, May 11th), I can tell him Woodingdean still has its one and only rookery.
I have lived in Woodingdean since 1949 and can remember a small rookery in the copse at the bottom of Warren Hill during the Fifties.
As Tony says, the rooks have been in the trees near Woodingdean Community Centre and, for the past two years, in the trees by Woodingdean Holy Cross Church.
They have now continued their movement eastwards and taken up residence in Warren Way, behind the tall flats of Ravensbourne Court.
There seems to be a slight increase in nests from 11 to 13 as far as I can estimate.
The missing nests from the old site have been dismantled by the birds and included in their new nests.
