Jon McClure has two pseudonyms. One is The Reverend, the other is "the fifth Arctic Monkey".
The suggestion he wrote all the (uncredited) songs on the Arctic Monkeys' acclaimed album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, may be spurious.
But there is no doubting the strength of McClure's association with their frontman Alex Turner.
His band supported the Monkeys on their sell-out UK tour, his brother appears on their album sleeve and, above all, he shares Turner's aptitude for writing sharp, modern lyrics.
Also hailing from Sheffield, Reverend And The Makers have a comparable line in danceable indie, offsetting sharp guitars with lazy, jazz-like brass and a hint of dub.
They want, they say, to play only small quirky gigs, ecstasy-fuelled clubs or cheesy student nights.
But they could soon find themselves faced with a much bigger audience thanks to the excitement caused by a nine-track demo available only online.
And, of course, the inevitable buzz surrounding anything connected with the Monkeys though McClure is keen to play comparisons down.
"There's a formula at the moment, where you could easily look at a band doing well and copy what another band are doing," he says.
"Y'know, make a nice fourpiece guitar record. I love all those bands but I don't want to sound like them. I wanna be an innovator not an imitator."
Starts at 10pm. Tickets cost £6, call 01273 699069.
