The jury in the Gary Rae murder trial has been told it can return majority verdicts.
It said yesterday it had been unable to reach unanimous verdicts on any of the defendants after six days of deliberations.
Judge Anthony Scott-Gall told the jury he would now accept verdicts on which at least ten of them were agreed.
Mr Rae, 40, died after he was allegedly attacked by six teenagers outside his flat in High Street, Hailsham, on May 29 last year.
William Devall, 19, and Luke Jones, 18, both of Meadow Road, Hailsham, deny murder but admit manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
Shane Challice, 19, of South Road, Hailsham, Jason Jackson, 18, of Albert Road, Polegate, and two juveniles aged 16 and 17, deny murder. The trial at Hove Crown Court continues.
