In response to YD Robinson (Letters, May 5), I offer what little I know about Bobby Breen.
He was born in Toronto, Ontario in 1927, became a star on Eddie Cantor's radio show at the age of nine in 1936 and was quickly recruited by RKO.
He starred in several films - Let's Sing Again (1936), Rainbow On The River (1936), Make A Wish (1937), Fisherman's Wharf (1939), Breaking The Ice (1938), Hawaii Calls (1938), Way Down South (1939), Escape To Paradise (1939), and Johnny Doughboy (1942) but when his voice broke at the age of 13 his film career was over.
Bobby served in the US infantry during the Second World War and after demob.
After his film career he continued singing in nightclubs, then graduated from UCLA and was a guest pianist for the NBC Symphony Orchestra on radio.
He could sing in English, Spanish, French and Italian and he must have grown up to be a real romantic, as he had three wives.
In 2002, he was living in Tamarac, Florida, running a talent agency. If he is still with us, he would be just about 80.
