It was saddening to read the Downlands day centre in Peacehaven might be closing (The Argus, April 28).
Nobody wants the cruel experience of Alzheimer's disease, especially loved ones and partners watching and caring for sufferers 24 hours a day.
I am writing about one visitor who was valued in Peacehaven in the Seventies, going into the Eighties.
I am referring to Cyril Garwood, who is now 81.
Cyril spent many hours and great energy with the late Ken Lambert, their wives and a rota of adult members, planning and operating a film club for local children for five to six months of each year.
He arranged a summer camp for film club members under canvas and they entered a float on Whitsun Bank Holiday year after year with a Disney-based theme.
Then there was the Christmas party which included a visit from Father Christmas and games and a present for each child, disco dancing for members and adult dance nights to raise money for film club equipment etc.
They say: "You get out of life what you put in".
Surely, after all the hours helping the children of Peacehaven, poor Cyril deserves a place to visit and relax in a bath.
We all want to keep the centre open.
