I agree with Alan Towler about filthy Brighton (Letters, May 9). I spend a few weeks of the year in France and, where I stay, the rubbish is collected and the streets are washed and swept daily.
The problem is Brighton and Hove City Council couldn't care less and has no idea how to organise matters - only in Brighton could a half-hearted roadsweeper "tickle the gutters" of my road on Tuesday when the refuse collection day is Wednesday.
Since the refuse gangs no longer collect rubbish which is more than an arm's length away and don't pick up any rubbish they drop, the problem will only get worse - but still our council tax continues to escalate.
