Like the subject matter, Amanda Waring's show in praise of chocolate will be an acquired taste for some people.
This amusing celebration of the cocoa bean, in cabaret style, covers its history and particularly its mystical importance to the Aztec race.
From the horror of human sacrifice, the story then proceeds into a personal journey from a childhood in Mexico to life in England, leading into a gentle parody of the film Chocolat.
In addition to her monologue, there is musical tomfoolery with her guitar accompanist, Andy Robinson, puppetry and chocolate modelling. Miss Waring's humour ranges from the surreal to slapstick and involves interaction with her audience - working well, in particular, with a cod fortune-telling routine.
The show has an almost orgasmic climax with Waring drenched in chocolate. Aided by a singing and pole-dancing chef, a fondue with aphrodisiac powers is prepared in which the audience is invited to indulge itself!
