I was sad to hear Brighton and Hove City Council plans to implement resident permit parking for Richardson Road, Brighton (The Argus, May 4).
I got to know some of the traders while shopping for my mother, who lived in New Church Road for 20 years until she died, aged 91, last June.
We shopped there regularly in the car as she couldn't walk far. Or, when I was visiting her, I would pick something up on my way through. That freedom, to just pop in to collect an item or two, is being taken away.
And, of course, once there are meters, there will be parking attendants. I was booked six times last year but the tickets were withdrawn on appeal.
This has made me nervous when parking because the signs are so confusing and different areas have different times and you still have to pay for an hour when you only want five minutes.
Small traders in Brighton and Hove need all the help they can get with Tesco just down the road. This would be another nail in their coffin.
