However you describe the planned Benfield Barn development on the edge of Portslade (The Argus, May 5) - hotel, pub, cafe, restaurant - anyone looking at the plans will see this is a Travel Lodge-style hotel and a very large Harvester/Beefeater-style pub.
Local councillors do not support this development, nor do the people living nearby.
The proposed hotel sleeps 32, with a further 16 in lodge buildings. This and the huge 150-seat pub/restaurant/cafe planned will change the whole area.
It is a massive development of a Grade II-listed building and a conservation area and will require the removal of scores of trees and severe alterations to the barn, which will benefit neither the area nor the local community at all.
