Supermarket giant Tesco wants to change its plans for a major increase in the size of one of its flagship Sussex stores.
Tesco has already been given the go-ahead to expand its superstore at Holmbush, Shoreham, by a third, creating up to 200 jobs. Now it wants to change the layout of the 26,000sqft extension and alter parking and traffic arrangements at the shopping complex.
The new scheme keeps the same floorspace but extends the store at the front. The height and the style of the roof will stay the same.
The move will allow an extra entrance to be built opening directly on to the car park.
Customers will still be able to use the main entrance shared with Marks & Spencer.
Tesco also wants to increase the glazed areas at the front of the store and build a new glass canopy reflecting the corporate image for all its stores.
The original extension would have meant moving the service yard used for deliveries and storeage, but if Adur District Council approves the new plans it will stay where it is.
The number of car parking spaces that will be lost to make way for the extension remains the same at 130.
Business leaders fear the expansion could kill trade in surrounding areas and lead to some shops closing down.
