Councillor Sue John says "Brighton and Hove City Council grants to Brighton Festival help it earn £20 million for the city" (Letters, May 5).
Assuming the figure is correct, does this £20 million represent income handed over to the council? If it doesn't, then exactly who does get it?
If it is generated by council spending of taxpayers' money, surely it ought be be collected and distributed to us all, which in round figures would amount to a rebate of a few hundred pounds in council tax saved - or, alternatively, additional services provided.
If this isn't happening, can Coun John explain what is?
