The Conservative city council group's submission "Don't let Prescott take our gardens" (The Argus, April 29) could mislead readers into accepting that the deputy prime minister intends to force residents to give up much-loved gardens to provide greater density development to meet anticipated housing needs in urban areas.
The truth is this land will only disappear if its owners decide to sell it to developers anxious to get their hands on such potentially valuable property - a matter of choice for all concerned.
Failure to meet anticipated housing needs from land supply within urban areas will clearly put further pressure on Government to consider greenfield sites which of course will also upset Conservatives who have consistently accused Mr Prescott and his government of wishing to "concrete over the countryside".
These same critics of Mr Prescott have also vehemently and consistently opposed a national park for the South Downs.
Methinks it is time for "Green Dave" Cameron to ride his trusty bike to Sussex and clarify where his party stands on matters such as housing and the environment.
