Two people were seriously injured in separate road crashes yesterday.
A 20-year-old woman and a car collided outside a camping shop in London Road, Brighton, at 2.30pm.
The road was closed and traffic was diverted while paramedics treated the woman.
She was taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, where her condition was said to be serious.
Police said early reports suggest the woman stepped off the pavement into the path of the car.
The driver suffered shock but was otherwise unhurt.
Police appealed for witnesses to come forward.
Earlier in the day a cyclist was rescued from beneath a lorry after a crash.
The collision happened at 10.45am on the A23 at Broadfield, Crawley.
The elderly male cyclist was airlifted by helicopter to the New East Surrey Hospital, Redhill, with serious injuries. The lorry driver was unhurt. Witnesses should contact Sergeant Peter Verney on 0845 6070 999, quoting Operation Dandelion.
